Toxicity of Mentha piperita extract against the 2nd instar larvae of fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was evaluated under laboratory conditions. The LC50 value were 0.66% after 12 hours, 0.068% after 5 days and 0.036% after 7 days. The extract treatment prolonged the larval and pupal periods compared with that of the control. The total immature stage was 20.67 days in the treatment, whereas it was 18.67 days in the untreated control. The total larval mortality rate was 68% in the treated insects and 14.67% in the control. Pupation rate was 32 % after treatment compared with 85.33% in the untreated control. Total mortality and malformation were 50% following treatment compared with 13.3% in the untreated control. Adult emergence rate of FAW was 50% in the treated insects and 98.5% in the control. Adult malformation rate was 75% in the treated insects compared with 18% in the untreated control. Proteases, amylase, total protein, total lipids and total carbohydrates were decreased in treated insects compared to the untreated control, whereas lipase activity was increased in the treated insects compared to the untreated control. The ICP analysis for Mentha piperita extract indicated the presence of Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mn, Ni, Pd and Zn, however, the elements Al, Cd, Ca, Mg, and Na were not detected.
