Wasps are a major threat of honeybee colonies worldwide. The problem has increased over time due to climate change. Globally, common wasp, Vespa vulgaris and oriental hornet, Vespa orientalis are among the most important species that attack honey bee colonies. In Palestine, the data on the presence and prevalence of wasps are lacking. To address this knowledge gap, an online survey that covered bee health, abundance and control of the wasps, was conducted. In total, 215 beekeepers responded to the survey. Analysis of results showed that the colony losses during 2024 were 12%. These losses were caused by Varroa mites, pesticides exposure, starvation, and wasp attacks. The common wasp was slightly more abundant (55%) than the oriental hornet (39%). Moreover, the seasonal peak of the wasp abundance was in the summer period (July, August, and September). In terms of wasp’s management methods, toxic baits were the most commonly used approach. Among the toxic baits, Fipronil 0.29% was the most toxic bait used, followed by imidacloprid 350g/L. These findings provided the foundational data necessary for developing future action plans, strategic interventions, and further scientific research on wasp abundance and management in Palestine.
