First Record of the Caper Bug, Stenozygum coloratum on Okra Abelmoschus esculentus in Syria

Abstract

A wide spread of an insect was observed on cultivated okra plants in the Al-Kafroun area in Syria. Upon collecting specimens, and through examination and comparison with taxonomic keys, the insect was identified as the caper bug, Stenozygum coloratum Klug (1845). This insect pest poses a new threat to an important economic food crop. Based on this study and earlier reports, this is the first record of this insect species on okra plants in Syria.
